This weekend our family went to my mom’s house in Indianapolis, so that she could see the kids and for an early birthday celebration for me ahead of my turning 36 this week. Our plan was to have a few low-key days around the house catching up, and then Saturday afternoon would be the birthday dinner and party.

Thursday and Friday were a little rough, as my son, Archie, was mildly sick and recovering from a fever, and my daughter, Poppy, had a bit of a cough herself, and no one was sleeping very well. …

When the pandemic hit and Peloton popularity skyrocketed, soon most of my friends and coworkers were getting bikes and starting to chatter about their Peloton scores. Peloton score was becoming a social status symbol in this really weird, pandemic environment. Never one to back down from a social status challenge, I decided I wanted to reach the top — to finish in the top 1% of a 30-minute ride.

But one thing was holding me back — I wasn’t in that great of shape. Some background on me: I’ve had a Peloton since 2017 (a self-serving Christmas gift for my…

When I found out about EulerBeats early last week I was immediately drawn to it. I realized that I identified with the combination of math, art and music that makes it so unique, but I didn’t understand a lot of the economics and potential business opportunities that exist. So I dove in, started researching and followed the active community on their discord, and I’ve learned quite a bit.

Being so brand new, yet already capturing much attention, there are a lot of open questions already in the community. These range from beginner (what is EulerBeats?) to intermediate (how do the…

There has already been some immediate fallout from the Wall Street Boys and GameStop saga, but one that piqued my interest the most has been the increasing mention of “the rise of DeFi” and how many are predicting that the end result of all of this uproar is Bitcoin and cryptocurrency adoption.

I have been following cryptocurrencies and blockchain finance applications since the mania of 2017, but until very recently I’ve mostly focused on Bitcoin and Ethereum and considered everything else as noise. …

I’ve completed 1.5 weeks of intermittent fasting (“IF”) at this point, and it’s led to some early insights into why the diet works along with its primary challenge. There have been some nice surprises along the way as well, including a nearly 10-lb weight loss in 5 days.

Let’s start with the surprises:

1) Rapid weight loss: I lost 5.5 lbs after 2 days and 9.5 lbs after 5 days, which was a great immediate feedback loop. I did have to re-calibrate a bit and start adding more calories into my day, which led to ending the week down only…

As I start out with intermittent fasting in January 2021, I’ve been reflecting on diet principles and frameworks. A framework that has resonated with me the most is from Peter Attia (link below). It’s a 2-min read and has a quick video, and it’s very simple and easy to understand.

He describes dieting as having 3 levers of restriction you can pull: 1) caloric restriction (i.e. calorie counting); 2) dietary restriction (cutting out certain foods); and 3) time restriction. …
